March 18th, 2011 - Spring/Summer Philip Nyren Magazine
I'm very excited about our Spring/Summer Magazine, which ought to be out in the coming week. The magazine has many great articles on fashion and the like, and this season, we've increased the coupon amount to $50 from $40, so don't wait, as there is an expiry date on them. As usual, there's one for Womenswear and one for Menswear too. I urge you to take advantage if you can. Meanwhile, I have just returned from a weeklong motorcycle trip into the high Sierra Madre mountains of north central Mexico, to a place called the Copper Canyon. This canyon, actually a series of canyons, is purported to be five times larger than the Grand Canyon. I don't know if it is or not, but it's sure a lot harder to get to. I went in on a dirt bike, as there are no paved roads to get there. Not by accident, the Spring/Summer Magazine has an article about vintage British motorbikes. This is exciting to me for a couple of reasons: vintage, retro and authentic are current buzzwords in the style industry. Younger customers are new to vintage brands and styles, and older customers remember these things from the past. Everyone loves the tried and true, especially in tougher economic times. Another reason to be excited is that motorcycles continue to be a big part of current popular culture. We seem to constantly see the in-fighting of the Teutles on American Chopper, and motorbikes from heavy weight customs to Vespa scooters are everywhere: in displays, in advertising, on tee shirts, and now, we have vintage British motorcycles in the store's windows and on the shop floor. Currently on display in Menswear is a 1970 Triumph Bonneville. A 1969 BSA 650 Lightning is in our Yates Street window, and out back, there's a black '74 Norton Commando 850. I invite you to come in and view these and I will happily spend a half hour chatting about them with you should you like. To keep things interesting, we have also a scooter in the front window, and in the Womenswear window, a very interesting motorized bicycle. C'mon in and check it out! Phil
