December 21st, 2011 - Philip Nyren's Boxing Week Sale

As another Fall/Winter passes in the fashion business, the bargains are mounting up for the sale throughout Boxing Week.
Men's wear has everything from Vilebrequin bathing suits to multi-make business suits, all at sharper-then-ever prices. Skinny suits (along with lots of slim fit shirts and skinny ties to go with them) are available, as are regular fits for the, well, less inclined to skinny fits.
Did you know you can buy suits here, every single seasonal sale, for as little as $399? It's true. Every single season, I go through the store and make very serious discounts happen. Back in the day, these were called loss leaders. Those keen for the sharpest prices run down to see if there's something they like in their size, and if so, eureka! Denim and sportswear likewise.
Women's wear also holds many a bargain. I think for most customers, the search is the thing; the shopping itself is a means to the end. Believe me, Boxing Week into January is when one needs to search the hardest, but the rewards are great. Lines like Theory or Hugo Boss, along with the Nanette Lepore’s and Pink Tartan’s of the world are sought out and sell through quickly, so don't lag. Denims will also be well priced, and every piece from denimsmith’s Rich & Skinny, Paige Premium, 7 For All Mankind (and more) will be available.
Come on down and try some on. You'll be happy you did.

November 8th, 2011 - Back at the Shop

I'm finally home from the 'buying' travels. It's hard to imagine I've been buying Spring & Summer 2012 women's wear since July 19th, and have just finished for the same season as of the end of October. It's a long way round, and a lot of considerations to make: fit, style, colour, fabric, sizing, prices, continuity and so on. Quite exhausting given I have to do the same thing for men's wear in between those dates.
From July to October, I've been to New York, Toronto, Vancouver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and more than once in some towns.
Of all the cool places I get to go for business, Los Angeles would have to be my personal favourite; the West Coast vibe is nearest to my heart. The fashions there are fantastic, whether it's what I'm buying or just watching the people on the street. What Angelenos are wearing is often a bellwether of what's to come our way. This is true for party-type red-carpet-wear, or boho denim inspired styles. Having lunch at the Ivy on Robertson is great people watching, but is also a lot of fun. Eating there, one's surrounded by aging British rock stars, young TV and movie up-and-comers, and A list movie stars. You have to look for the big shots of Hollywood, but if you go where they are, you'll see 'em certain sure.
It's tough work I know, but someone's got to do it.
Come later November through early December, women's resort wear will start to ship in the shop, and you'll see a precursor to spring: colour, and lots of it.
By spring, the store'll be packed with bright fruit coloured denims, dresses, tops and even shoes. This is true for men's wear too, and wait ‘til you see the yellow Cole Haan shoes for guys. Terrific, no kidding.
Meanwhile, Women's Holiday wear is well under way. Party dresses for the black tie events of the season have arrived and are starting their exit to new owners. If you need something for these events, I'd recommend a trip down to the store to try some on before it's too late.
See you soon.

November 2nd, 2011 - Leather Jackets

The sun-filled, chilly days of Autumn are, magically, still perfect for us here in Victoria. Still, chilly is the word, and nothing wards off the Fall chill like a new leather jacket, women and men alike.
Warm, durable and always a fashion statement, leathers are something to wear almost the year round, at least here.
Our jackets are chosen by us one by one, style by style, and colour by colour. Designed all over the world, our wonderful selection of jackets are exclusive to our store on Vancouver Island.
We encourage and invite you to come in and try one on to see for yourself. See what warm and cool look like at the same time.
